Programming Note: I’m moving the regular long form posts to Friday, as it’s more conducive to my schedule and most of you guys seem to be reading them at the end of the week anyways.
Never apologize for being weird in a world full of normal.

The Dick Van Dyke Show has always been one of my favorites. I remember watching it on Nick at Nite, along with My Three Sons and The Beverly Hillbillies. If it wasn’t in black and white, I wasn’t interested. ’60s-era comedy, a heavy comforter, and a warm waterbed made for a great way to end the day.
Rumor has it that in the clip above, Mary Tyler Moore wasn’t supposed to successfully complete the trick shot. There was a different stinger written for the commercial break, but as luck would have it, she made the shot. The look on both of their faces is absolutely classic. You can even hear the excitement from the in-studio audience, who likely knew it was supposed to go a different way.
Improv isn’t something that comes naturally to most people. You have to be pretty comfortable in your skin to dance in this way. So, be yourself—because that’s all anybody really wants to see anyway.
Have a great week!
